How to Setup a New Mozilla Email Login Account

Setting up a new account with Thunderbird is easy. All you have to do is provide your username and password for your email provider and your email address.

Thunderbird discovers connection details (such as ports, server names, security protocols, etc.) by looking up your email provider in a database containing connection information for all major Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Thunderbird can usually provide account information after you identify your account provider (as described after the "@" sign in your email address).

The first time you open Thunderbird after installation, you will be prompted to create a profile. (At this point, close all windows that suggest setting up an email service and continue).

Next, you will be asked to provide details about your email account, when you add a new email account (via File > New > Existing Email Account... or via Account Settings).

Another way to add a new account is to click on an existing account name (email address displayed). Under the account heading, there are two options: View settings for this account and Set up account. Under Set Up Account, click Email.

When you click Next, Thunderbird searches for email providers and tries to determine server settings.

You can choose IMAP or POP as the incoming email protocol. IMAP and POP are standard protocols for retrieving email. IMAP is a more modern protocol that allows you to store messages on both your mail server and your local computer. The POP protocol only allows local storage of messages. Email providers can provide access using the IMAP or POP protocols, or support both.

After the account is created, Thunderbird will display the new account.
